About these Workshops

In Dec 2014, WISE KIDS launched our ‘Generation 2000’ Research Report on the ‘Internet and Digital Media Habits and Digital Literacy of 13 and 14 Year Olds (Year 9 pupils) in Wales’. This research was co-funded by WISE KIDS, the Children’s Commissioner for Wales, Logicalis and S4C.

WISE KIDS is hosting 4 free workshops for stakeholders on 4 different dates and locations across Wales, which aim to:
  • share our key findings and recommendations and how these can be used to inform developments to engage young people and promote their digital literacy, digital citizenship and wellbeing.
  • draw on our learning on what engages young people and inspires them, to address their knowledge and skills gaps and promote Digital Competence (as highlighted by Professor Donaldson in his recent report, Successful Futures)

The research findings on 13 and 14 year olds will include:
  • How they use the Internet and digital technologies personally, socially and educationally
  • How digitally skilled and literate they are – i.e., how able they are in using the Internet and digital technologies critically and positively
  • The school-home gap in digital engagement
  • Parental mediation strategies as reported by them
  • Their online safety, resilience and privacy practices
Essential Notes

As part of this workshop, participants are encouraged to bring along their smartphones. They will be working in groups and recording reflective activities and live blogging using their smart devices. These outputs will be shared on our website and social platforms.
